BC signs locals Vettori and McCarthy

Chestnut Hill, MA – A pair of local players, Patrice Vettori and Kate McCarthy are among a class of five new recruits joining the Boston College women’s soccer team in 2010. The other incoming freshman are Rachel Davitt, Jessica Mickelson and Mary Gibson Wagner.

“As a staff we think our Class of 2010 will be a very strong group from top to bottom,’’ said Boston College Head Coach Alison Kulik. “The addition of this group will make us stronger in all thirds of the field.’’

Davitt (Basking Ridge, NJ – Ridge High School – 5-6 – Defender) finished her high school career with 63 goals and 47 assists while leading the team to 2009 County Championship and the 2008 State Finals. She was named Player of the Year by the Newark Star Ledger and Camden Courier Post Davitt plays club soccer for the PDA Fire, who were Region 1 Champion in 2007, Finalist in 2007, 2008 State Cup Champions, 2009 Region I Champions, State Cup Champions and National Finalist.

McCarthy (Longmeadow, MA – The Loomis Chaffee School – 5-foot-7 – Midfield) played four years at the Loomis Chaffee School where she had 55 goals and 44 assists and helped the team to its second straight New England Private School Athletic Conference Class A Championship. She was a three-time NSCAA All-New England selection and an adidas All-American as well as the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year. She plays club soccer for Connecticut FC, which has captured four consecutive state cups.

Mickelson (Pleasanton, Calif. – Amador Valley High School – 5-foot-8 – Goalkeeper) played for Pleasanton Rage Soccer Club until 2008-09 and was a member of Mustang Spirit for the 2009-10 season. She was named to the Regional IV ODP Team in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and the Cal-North State ODP Team in 2007 and 2008.

Gibson Wagner (Wall, NJ – Wall High School – 5-foot-6 – Forward/Midfield) was a member of the Under-17 Women’s National Team in 2008 and the Under-16 National Team player pool. She was a member of the New Jersey ODP National Champions in 2007 and played for the New Jersey ODP team National Finalist in 2008and the New Jersey ODP Regional Champions in 2006 and 2007. Gibson Wagner plays for Player Development Academy (PDA), which has won two straight Region 1 Cups and were runner ups in the national competition.

Vettori (Dedham, MA – Dedham High – 5-foot-6 – Midfield) scored 68 goals, and had 54 assists for 122 points while being named a Bay State League All-Star four times, in addition to being a 2008 and 2009 Eastern Mass All-Star and All-State honoree and 2009 Bay State League MVP. Vettori plays for the Stars of Massachusetts Club team and was a member of the Region I ODP program from 2005-2008.
