Mewis notched her first career hat trick as the Eagles routed Harvard 8-1 Saturday night at Soldiers Field. The native of Hanson, Mass., scored her first goal just five minutes into the game, accepting a long pass from Lauren Bernard and placing a shot from 10 yards out in front of the net past Bethany Kanten.
In the 14th minute, Mewis tallied her second score of the game, with a shot in from the left side of the box that deflected into the net, making it a 2-1 game. She completed her hat trick, the first recorded by a BC player since 2010, in the 48th minute.
The six points scored in the game gives Mewis 96 career points, the new program record. She passed Sarah Rahko ’03 who has held the No. 1 spot in career points scored since the 2002 season. Mewis also extended her point scoring streak to nine games. She now has the top two scoring steaks recorded in the Eagles history. As a sophomore, Mewis tallied an assist or goal in 11 straight games. She has also scored eight goals in the last five games.
