AMERICA EAST HONOR
BU's Hewitt named Player of the Week
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior Brea Hewitt of the Boston University women’s soccer team was named America East Player of the Week.
Hewitt earns the first weekly honor from the conference for the 2012 season, and the first Player of the Week award of her career, after an impressive opening weekend for the Terriers. The Ashburn, Va., native accumulated five points in BU’s two victories over the weekend.
In the Terriers’ 3-0 win over Central Connecticut State on Friday, Hewitt recorded the first multi-goal performance of her career. As the first player to come off the bench for the Terriers, she scored the first goal of BU’s season in the 30th minute when she buried a rebound from a corner kick by junior Megan McGoldrick.
In the second half against the Blue Devils, Hewitt found the back of the net again in the 77th minute after a cross from McGoldrick to give her a pair of goals in the Terriers’ season-opening victory.
Hewitt then dished out her first assist of the season on Sunday in BU’s 3-0 victory at crosstown rival Northeastern. The midfielder brought the ball down the right side and fired a cross to sophomore Jamie Turchi who fired a shot past the Huskies’ keeper in the 75th minute.
Hewitt’s two goals and one assist this weekend set career highs for the senior that had totaled a stat line of 1-2-4 in her previous three seasons with the Terriers.
