FALLING IN THEIR WAKE
Demon Deacons down BU 3-1
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest tallied two second-half goals to earn a 3-1 victory over Boston University on Friday night at Spry Stadium in front of 2,682 fans.
Facing the Terriers (1-2-0) for the first time ever, the Demon Deacons finished ahead in both shot attempts, 19-8, and in corner kicks, 9-2. Featuring all 11 starters from last year's squad that advanced to the second round of the NCAAs, Wake Forest improves to 2-0-0.
Chris Duvall put WFU on the board in the 18th minute when he tapped in a pass from Luca Gimenez. Freshman Parker Powell tied the game up 19 minutes later with assistance from freshman Mac McGuire and junior Derek McCaffrey, who earned his third point of the week after scoring the game-winning goal on Monday at No. 10 Boston College.
Sophomore Nick Thomson kept BU in the game by recording five saves, as the teams entered the locker room with the score 1-1. The Deacs though kept the pressure up in the second half and pulled ahead in the 57th minute off the foot of Michael Gamble. He added an insurance score in the 80th minute .
Thomson finished the night with six saves for the Terriers, while Michael Lisch had one in the victory.
Remaining in the state of North Carolina, the Terriers will continue their six-game road trip with a visit over to Raleigh to face the defending national champion UNC Tar Heels on Sunday (Sept. 1) at 7 p.m.
