Big East women's tournament moved to Rentschler
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The 2012 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship will be played at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., Nov. 2 & 4. Originally set for Morrone Stadium on the University of Connecticut campus in Storrs, the switch is being made to help alleviate the complications on campus due to the impact of Hurricane Sandy.
“Due to varying safety and logistical issues, we are excited to partner with UConn and Rentschler Field to produce a top-notch championship event,” said BIG EAST Associate Commissioner for Olympic Sports Jim Siedliski. “The move to East Hartford will allow our four NCAA-caliber teams a championship experience at a world-class facility.”
The UConn campus was closed Monday and Tuesday due to the Hurricane Sandy.
“We are pleased to assist The BIG EAST Conference and the University of Connecticut in relocating this event to Rentschler Field”, said Michael Fresher, General Manager, Bushnell Management Services. “Since we are a Hartford-based management team with a close working relationship with the UCONN athletic department, we were able to quickly coordinate the local logistics of this event. We are proud to be of service to the community, the BIG EAST Conference and The University of Connecticut during this unprecedented time.”
