Holy Cross shuts out Rhode Island 1-0

KINGSTON, R.I. Sophomore goalkeeper Carly McCabe made seven saves as Holy Cross recorded a 1-0 road victory over Rhode Island on Tuesday evening. The Crusaders are now 2-2-1 on the season while the Rams hold a record of 4-2.

Despite being outshot in the first half by a tally of 8-1, the Crusaders lone shot-on-goal broke the scoreless tin the 23rd minute. Freshman Annie Galvin broke free, dribbling into the penalty area and beating Rams goalkeeper Reilly Lindsey one-on-one with a low shot into the right side of the net for her second goal of the season.

Holy Cross relied on its defense to preserve the victory in the second half. McCabe remained solid in net, making a big save in the 81st minute off a shot by Rhode Island's Lucy Gildein. With the victory, McCabe is now 1-1-1 on the 2012 season while Lindsey moves to 2-2.

Holy Cross will return home on Sunday, Sept. 9, to take on Fairfield at 3:00 p.m. at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
