Providence will visit North Carolina in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Menís Championship, tournament organizers announcer Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday at Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, the winner advancing to the College Cup in Houston Dec. 9-11.

OMAHA, Neb. -- Julian Gressel scored once and set up Danny Griffin for the deciding goal as Providence defeated the Creighton Bluejays, 2-1, in the third round of the NCAA Menís Championship Saturday night.

The Providence Friars had to tone down expectations early this season. Top recruit Zachary Herivaux decided to sign with the New England Revolution. Then, preseason All-Big East selections Dominik Machado and Mac Steeves went out with season-ending injuries. Going into last month, the Friars had a 4-5-0 record and seemed headed toward mediocrity.
