Huskies 1-1 draw against Santa Clara
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Danielle Schulmann scored the equalizer as UConn closed out the Notre Dame Adidas Invitational with a 1-1 tie against No. 16 Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon
Connecticut sits at 2-2-1 on the season after going 0-1-1 this past weekend. The Huskies previously fell to No. 19 North Carolina, 2-0, on Friday.
Santa Clara took advantage of a Connecticut mistake in the ninth minute to jump to an early lead off the foot of Lauren Matheson. Matheson stole the ball from the defense in the box and chipped it over goalkeeper Alison Saucier for her first goal of the season.
The Huskies responded with Schulmann’s third goal of the season in the 23rd minute to equalize. Jennifer Skogerboe sent a lob into the box that Schullmann chipped past Andi Tostanoski
In over time, Santa Clara continued its attack to start overtime as Jackson had another shot saved by Allison Saucier and minutes later Matheson hit the post.
UConn's Linda Ruute had a shot saved a minute later for the final chance for either team.
Tostanoski finished with nine saves, as the Huskies out shot the Broncs 20-16. Saucier had two saves for UConn.
The Huskies will host Marist in Storrs on Wednesday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
