Matheson scores again in UConn win

EAST LANSING, MICH. – For the second straight match, sophomore Allando Matheson came off the bench to lead the No. 5/1 UConn men’s soccer team to victory. Matheson scored the game’s only goal as UConn won at Michigan State, 1-0 Monday afternoon.

Matheson found space in the box, collected senior Max Wasserman’s one-time cross from the right side, and beat MSU keeper Bryce Dobbins at the far post in the 52nd minute to keep the Huskies undefeated after three weeks. Sophomore Adria Beso also assisted on the play.

Matheson came off the bench against Dartmouth on Friday night and notched a goal in regulation and an assist on the game-winning goal in overtime as UConn won, 2-1.

Connecticut improved to 3-0 while Michigan State dropped to 1-2-1.

The Huskies were outshot, 9-8, and the two teams each finished with three corner kicks. Sophomore All-American Andre Blake finished with five saves to earn his second shutout of the season and the 17th of his career.

The Huskies will host Washington on Friday at 7 p.m. live on Fox Soccer Channel as part of the NSCAA’s Game of the Week package.
