New Hampshire tops UMass 1-0 in OT
AMHERST, Mass. - After a scoreless regulation and first overtime, New Hampshire's Jon Harris scored the Golden Goal with 85 seconds remaining in the match giving the Wildcats a 1-0 double-overtime win over the UMass men's soccer team at Rudd Field on Saturday.
The Minutemen fall to 1-3-3 overall, while UNH remains undefeated at 4-0-2 overall.
Harris' goal came at the 108:35 mark of the game as he was able to slip behind the UMass defense to catch up with a perfectly played pass from Dylan George at centerfield. Harris sprinted past two UMass defenders to collect the ball 20 yards from the goal. UMass keeper Chris Piekos came off his line to challenge for the loose ball, but Harris beat him to it for the easy left-footed tap-in for the game-winner.
New Hampshire held a 16-to-12 edge in shots for the game including a 5-to-1 advantage in the second overtime.
Piekos made six saves in goal for UMass and falls to 0-2-3 for the season. Colin O'Donnell earned the win in goal for New Hampshire making three saves in the shutout.
UMass will return to action on Wednesday against Dartmouth at Rudd Field (3 PM).
