Pletnick's third goal leads Catamounts
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Bre Pletnick's third goal in three games proved to be the game-winner as the Vermont Catamounts defeated Central Connecticut, 2-0, in the TD Bank women's soccer tournament at Virtue Field.
After a scoreless first half, Pletnick was able to finish off a cross from Ellie Mills and a flick from Megan Rozumalski for her third goal of the season. Pletnick was able to knock a header past CCSU goalkeeper Nikola Deiter and give UVM a 1-0 lead on the Blue Devils with just over 30 minutes left in the match.
The Catamounts pushed their lead to two when Alexandra Dezenzo found the back of the net from distance. Her shot from 30 yards out sailed over the outstretched arm of Deiter and gave UVM a 2-0 lead in the 63rd minute.
The Vermont defense made the shutout standup. Freshman Ally Ramos (4 saves) made some tough saves coming off her line in the second half and Morgan Nichols posted three stops in her second career start.
Dieter was credited with two saves in net for Central Connecticut.
Vermont picks up its first win of the season to move to 1-2 overall. The win also marked the first victory for the Catamounts at their new home Virtue Field. Central Connecticut falls to 0-2 on the year.
In the first game of the TD Bank Classic, New Hampshire defeated Fairfield, 2-0.
The tournament continues on Sunday (Aug. 26) when New Hampshire faces Central Connecticut at 11 a.m. The Catamounts will take on Fairfield at 1:30 p.m.
