July 25, 2012 BOSTON CONNECTIONS Both Liverpool and Roma have Hub ties

BOSTON---While the last-place Boston Red Sox prepared to face the defending American League champion Rangers in the swelter of Arlington, Texas, the Old Towne brass was back home on a cool New England summer evening showing off their newest baubles in the century-old jewel box of Fenway Park.
Red Sox owners John Henry and Tom Werner, who have also dabbled in NASCAR with Roush Racing, purchased legendary English club Liverpool in October, 2010
Ironically, it was Texas Rangers owner Tom Hicks who leveraged Liverpool to the hilt, loading the club with debt, infuriating Merseyside supporters, and forcing the bargain-basement fire sale to Henry and company.
The Red Sox are also linked to Roma as Red Sox minority owner Thomas DiBenedetto laid claim to a sizable share of the storied Serie A side in September, 2011.
The Roma connections also extend to Boston basketball.
James Pollotta, majority owner of the Celtics, owns a chunk of Roma and, according to reports from Italy, will soon replace Di Benedetto as Giallorossi president, while Celtics star Kevin Garnett is a minor investor in the club, playing a role similar to that of Celtics nemesis LeBron James for Liverpool.
