August 5, 2012 TEAMS ON TOUR Real Madrid wins second straight
LAS VEGAS---Real Madrid put on a less than dominating performance, beating Santos Laguna 2-1 in a World Football Challenge match at Sam Boyd Stadium Sunday night.
It was the second win of the Galacticos four game U.S. tour.
Xabi Alonso gave the La Liga champions the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, ripping a 25 yard shot into the left side of the net.
Santos Laguna equalized 11 minutes later. Daniel Ludueña played a ball over the top of the Real defense. Cristian Suárez made a perfectly times run onto the ball and slipped a left footed shot inside the near post.
Real Madrid got the game winner off a bizarre goal in the 72nd minute. Karim Benzema took a shot off a ball that was played into the area off a corner kick. Santos goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez punched the ball away, but it hit Sami Khedira in the back and bounced into the net.
Real Madrid continues its U.S. tour on Wednesday with a game against AC Milan at Yankee Stadium, before closing out the tour on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia against Glasgow Celtic.
