July 29, 2012 CUTTONE’S CONCEPTS
All for One?
Hope Solo is probably the best women’s goalkeeper in the world. But there is something Solo is even better at than stopping opponents’ shots---stirring up controversy.
July 27, 2012 CHANGING HOPE
Solo different player, person than in 2007
What with all the off-field distractions, Dancing with the Stars, a rebuke from the USADA after a drug test, a shoulder injury, posing in the nude for magazines, writing a biography, it’s a wonder Hope Solo has any time for her primary job, which is keeping goal for the U.S. Women’s National Team. But that is just a part of the 30-year-old’s life.
When the she discovered she was not going to be a starter for the U.S. Women's National Team at the Olympics, she could have moped and been a major distraction for her teammates. That was certainly a tough comedown for the player who tallied the game-win in the 1-0 gold medal win over Brazil in Beijing in 2008.
July 24, 2012 GOLD IS THE GOAL
U.S. women have something to prove
It’s pretty clear the U.S. Women’s National Team has an objective at the London Olympics---bring back a third straight Gold Medal. After last year’s heartbreaking loss to Japan in the World Cup final, anything less will probably be considered a failure, by the team, and by American fans.
They still are smarting from last year's disappointing finish, losing to Japan in penalty kicks in the Women's World Cup final and they want to extend their streak of winning gold medals to three consecutive competitions, which would be the best for men or women.
