MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER

July 21, 2012
MLS SUNDAY
A look at the upcoming game

San Jose Earthquakes (13-4-4, 43 pts) @ Vancouver Whitecaps FC (8-6-7, 31 pts), 7:00 pm ET (CSNBA, SNETPac)
The Vancouver Whitecaps shook up their offense this week, acquiring Scotland captain Kenny Miller and dealing Eric Hassli to Toronto. For the moment, red-hot rookie Darren Mattocks (six goals) will continue to fill Hassliís shoes, but Miller arrived relatively fit and is considered likely to see his first MLS action on Sunday against league leaders San Jose at BC Place. The Whitecaps could certainly use the Cardiff City strikerís proven firepower against the Earthquakes, who are led by MLS Golden Boot leader Chris Wondolowski (17 goals in 19 games, three of them against Vancouver), and are averaging just over two goals per game. The teams have split the season series so far, with the Quakes taking a 3-1 win at Buck Shaw Stadium on April 7 and the Whitecaps taking revenge 2-1 on their home turf May 5.
