CHESTER, Pa.---Leg-weary Real Salt Lake held the misfiring Philadelphia Union to a scoreless draw Friday night at PPL Park.

RSL, playing for the third time in seven days, were outshot 13-6, but goalkeeper Nick Rimando stopped both Philadelphia shots on goal – second-half attempts by Jack McInerney and Michael Farfan – to post his 96th career MLS shutout. Danny Cruz sent an open shot over the bar for the hosts in the 42nd minute, and Antoine Hoppenot hit the post in stoppage time.

Jonny Steele came closest to breaking through for RSL, breaking into the box and drawing netminder Zac MacMath off his line only to whiff on his initial shot. The ball rolled through toward the net, but MacMath was able to scramble back and smother it before Steel could get off another shot.

The tie leaves the Union at 7-12-4, with 24 points. Salt Lake is now 13-10-4 with 43 points, just five points behind the first place San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS West.
