A look at the upcoming games
FC Dallas (8-11-8, 32 pts) @ LA Galaxy (11-11-4, 37 pts), 5:00 pm ET (NBCSN)
The LA Galaxy held captain Landon Donovan out of Thursday night’s 5-2 CONCACAF Champions League win over Isidro Metapan in hopes that his tender hamstring would carry him through Sunday’s Western Conference showdown with FC Dallas at the Home Depot Center. Robbie Keane has a two-game MLS scoring streak after connecting in a 1-1 draw with Columbus on August 15. David Beckham powered the Galaxy attack at midweek with a goal and two assists. Juninho scored twice. FC Dallas are trying to make a late run into postseason contention, and have won three straight, including last weekend’s 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake. Fabian Castillo has scored in all three matches, and the Hoops added veteran Argentine striker Matias Jara at midweek for extra firepower down the stretch.
New York Red Bulls (13-7-5, 44 pts)@ Sporting Kansas City (14-7-4, 46 pts), 7:00 pm ET (ESPN2)
Sporting Kansas City is riding a three-game winning streak going into Sunday’s game against the New York Red Bulls at Livestrong Sporting Park. Graham Zusi has assists in all three games, including on Kei Kamara’s game-winner in a 1-0 road win over Toronto FC on Saturday. The Red Bulls, coming off an explosive 3-2 comeback win over the Portland Timbers last weekend, could knock Sporting out of first place in the Eastern Conference with a win. New Red Bulls DP Tim Cahill scored his first MLS goal against the Timbers, Kenny Cooper his 14th, and defender Heath Pearce headed home the game-winner. New York captain Thierry Henry will not make the trip to Kansas City after becoming a father on Thursday.
