December 29, 2016 PREPPING TO DEBUT Boston City FC signs teen defender Dutra
Defender Filipe Dutra has re-signed with Boston City FC and will be eligible to make his National Premier Soccer League debut when the team opens the season in April.
Dutra, 18, was a member of the team last season but was too young to be eligible to play. Dutra, a central defender and holding midfielder, played against the New England Revolution U-23s in an exhibition match.
“Filipe is one of the most talented young players I have ever seen and we are excited to see him in action for Boston City this season,” Boston City coach Palhinha said in a release. “He has had to wait to come into our first team and now that he is old enough, he will bring even more strength to our defense and midfield. For such a young player, he is very composed and is now ready to play at this level.”
Dutra played for Naugatuck (Conn.) High School and the Connecticut Rush.
“I am proud to come back and continue my journey at Boston FC,” Dutra said. “I am looking to come out strong this year, with a strong motivational mentality, and show that I can become an important player for the team.”
