REPRESENTING THE EAST
Aztec advances to WPSL championship
BEVERLY, Mass - Aztec MA will represent the East in the Women's Premier Soccer League National Championship July 28-29 in Pensacola, FL. Aztec won an overtime game on Wednesday to qualify for the East finals and New York Athletic Club (NYAC) defeated Syracuse, 4-0 to qualify for the east finals.
NYAC had already qualified for the US Amateur Open Cup final slated for Chicago July 20-21. In a mutual decision between the teams and the league, NYAC will send a full strength squad to the US Open Cup and Aztec will represent the East the the WPSL National Championships.
"NYAC have been a strong team all year and you always want to test yourself against the best. Given their accomplishment of making it to the US Open Cup finals, they should have a full strength squad to go after the Open Cup championship," said Brandon Nelson, Aztec General Manager. "We wish them the best of luck in the Open Cup Finals and hopefully we collectively can bring two championships to the east coast."
The Aztecs will be representing the East in the WPSL National Championships for the third straight year. The Aztec Breakers Reserves won the National Championship in Dallas, TX in 2010 and lost in the Semi-finals to the eventual Champions, Orange County Wave, in 2011.
