Despite the overall disappointing season for the Revolution, Shalrie Joseph continued to shine in midfield, earning his third straight MLS Best XI selection. His nomination as a finalist for the Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player Award is No. 4 on the New England Soccer News list of top stories for 2009.

Always a force in the New England central midfield, Joseph also became the focal point of the Revolution offense this season, after season-ending injuries to team all-time scoring leader Taylor Twellman and MLS all-time assist leader Steve Ralston. The versatile 31-year-old almost single-handedly guided the Revs to a postseason berth with career-high marks in both goals (8) and assists (8), leading the team in both categories. His Best XI selection was the fourth of his career.

Joseph was a finalist for the MVP award along with winner Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy and Jeff Cunningham of FC Dallas.
