A look at the upcoming game
Toronto FC (1-10-2, 5 pts) @ Montreal Impact (5-8-3, 18 pts), 7:30 pm ET, TSN
Fresh off yet another crushing result, Toronto FC will take on a beefed-up Montreal Impact Wednesday night at Saputo Stadium. New Designated Player Marco Di Vaio, a former Italian national team forward, is scheduled to debut for the Impact against the most porous backline in MLS – the Reds have surrendered 28 goals in just 13 games. Di Vaio became eligible just in time for the injury-wracked Impact, who learned last week that their other Italian attacking linchpin, Bernardo Corradi, will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. The Reds were within seconds of giving new coach Paul Mariner his first win last Saturday, but gave up a stoppage-time goal to slip into a 2-2 draw with the visiting New England Revolution. Between MLS play and the Canadian Championships, these two teams have already seen enough of each other this season to have developed a healthy, and sometimes prickly, rivalry. The Impact won the only MLS encounter between the teams, 2-1 at BMO Field, and have been formidable on their new home ground, scoring eight goals in their first two games there.
