Bengtson to join Honduras

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. Ė New England Revolution forward Jerry Bengtson has been called up to represent Honduras in the teamís upcoming home-and-home FIFA World Cup Qualifier matches against Cuba on Friday, Sept. 7 in Havana, and Tuesday, Sept. 11 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

Bengtson will depart the Revolution to join Honduras following the Revsí Sept. 1 match against the Philadelphia Union, and will miss the teamís Sept. 5 match against the Columbus Crew while on international duty. Revs fans who want to see Bengtson play for his national side, can watch both the games on pay-per-view.

Bengtson has earned 22 caps with Honduras, scoring eight goals, since he entered the national team picture in 2010. His last appearance with the national team came on Wednesday, Aug. 15, when he played in an exhibition against Argentine power Boca Juniors in Miami, scoring one goal.

Bengtson also recently represented Honduras at the 2012 Olympic Games in London as one of the Under-23 teamís three over-age players. He started all four of Hondurasí games, scored three goals and helped the team advance through the group stage to the quarterfinals for the first time in history.
