FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Ryan Guy will represent Guam in next week’s Paulino Alcantara Peace Cup, which will be played at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, Philippines.
Guy will depart the Revolution to join Guam following the Saturday night’s Sept. 22 match against the New York Red Bulls and will miss the team’s road contest at Houston on Sept. 29 match at Houston because of the international commitment.
This trip will be Guy’s first-ever involvement with Guam’s national team after declaring his intent to play for the country earlier this summer. His father, Jesse, was born in the island nation, making Guy eligible for that country’s national team.
Four teams will participate in the annual tournament, which was formerly named the Long Teng Cup: Guam, Macau, Philippines and Taiwan. Guam is scheduled to play three games in Manila: Tuesday, Sept. 25 vs. Philippines; Thursday, Sept. 27 vs. Taiwan; and Saturday, Sept. 29 vs. Macau.
