So much for an early-round surprise. Now the United States will need a late first-round miracle. Very little went right for the U.S. in its humiliating 3-0 opening-round World Cup loss to the Czech Republic as the Americans' hopes of advancing took a serious hit on Monday.

Czechs have potential to do some damage
Big things are expected of the Czech Republic, ranked second in the world in FIFA’s poll. So, looking a bit ahead, this is something interesting: If Brazil wins Group F and the Czechs finish second in Group E, there will be a titantic match-up of the defending world champions and No. 1 ranked team in the world (according to the FIFA poll) against the No. 2 team in that very poll -- in the second round of all places.
